Getting Your Firepit Ready for Cooler Weather

While we are still seeing temperatures in the 90’s here in Texas, we know that other areas are starting to see some cooler temperatures which means it is time to use your firepit. One cannot talk about fall without bringing up sitting around a fire. Gathering with family and friends, enjoying a drink, making smores with your kids, reconnecting with one another. Gathering around a fire is one of the best ways to create memories. Humans have been doing it for millions of years. There is something about gathering around an open fire that slows the world down and makes everything better.

Before you gather around and lite the fire, it’s important to ensure your firepit is properly prepared for use. If you don’t use your firepit year around, there are many things that can cause it to malfunction (low propane, clogged fuel lines, damaged fuel lines, or blocked airflow). In this blog, we want to share some basic maintenance you can perform at home to ensure your Casual Fireside firepit is ready for use.

*These steps below are specific to OW Lee Casual Fireside Firepits. Before attempting these steps on any other firepit, please consult your owner’s manual from the manufacturer.

1. Clearing your venturi tube

When a firepit sits unused for a period of time, it is common for spiders or other pests to find their way into your venturi tubes and block the gas flow to your burner. One major issue that can occur from blocked venturi tubes is a flash fire. A flash fire is a fire burning outside of the burner box. This can cause damage to your control panel, knobs, hoses, regulator, or manifold. In this video, we show you how to properly clean your venturi tubes to ensure the lines are clear of any blockages.

2. Checking and installing your propane tank

If your propane tank has not been used in a while it is a good idea to check how much propane you have left in the tank. If you are not comfortable doing that, it is always a good idea to exchange or refill your tank so there are no surprises. Depending on which Casual Fireside firepit you have, you may have a vertical or horizontal tank. The videos above give you a step-by-step guide on installing the tank for your firepit.

3. Igniting your firepit
