Skilled Sewing Machine Operator
SUMMARY: The Sewing Machine Operator is primarily responsible is sewing cushions, umbrellas and decorative pillows. The Sewing Machine Operator performs the following duties in a fast-paced environment: sewing, cutting, threading, cleaning, oiling, and housekeeping in and around the machine and production area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keep work area clean and picked upped.
- Always strive to increase your productivity.
- Ask your supervisor or co-workers for assistance if you need it.
- Sew all cushions, pillows, umbrellas, etc according to the design specifications, maintaining proper stitches per inch and seam overlap. Locate the hook & loop ties according to the design specifications in order for the cushion to be placed on the specific frame it is designed for on the proper side, front & back, top & bottom and the law label in correct located on the cushion, and the stack of different labels in the correct order.
- Use the correct color thread & bobbin thread per your supervisor’s instruction.
- Make sure cushions are handled properly and that they are kept clean and away anything that may potentially damage or stain them.
- Make sure stitching (stitches per inch) and overlap are maintained according the established standards.
- Make sure ties are placed on the cushion according design specifications, and in the proper direction & location for proper use.
- Make sure ties are cut sewn to the proper length according to design specifications, and that a hook and loop are put together as a group in order to secure the cushion to the frame.
- Observe that the various fabric patterns are properly sewn together in order for the designated center is centered, stripes meet each other and the top of a pattern is facing up on the different cushion designs.
- Take extra care when working with COM or other special fabrics in order to reduce errors and rework.
- Pay attention to the machine you are operating & make sure it is operating properly. Notify your supervisor as soon as you notice the machine not operating properly.

Grinder
SUMMARY: The Grinder’s primary job is using a handheld grinder, and various grit disks or pads, to grind/buff down the welds on steel & aluminum furniture according the production schedule & established quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES:
- Grind or buff, various pieces of steel & aluminum furniture or parts to flatten & blend in weld marks & correct defects and prepare surfaces for finishing, using handheld power tools.
- Grinding disks, pads & back plates need to be checked periodically in order to remain at optimum working capability.
- Stop using any handheld power tool upon discovery of a problem. If fixable, fix the tool, if not fixable, make sure the tool is sent to the maintenance dept for repair.
- Provide quality control by inspecting each workpiece as your grinding it to ensure that the established quality standards are maintained. If you have a question, ask your supervisor or lead.
- Ability to use grinding & buffing hand power tool, to grind & buff metal parts to their prescribed design specifications and maintain the established high-quality standards.
- Inspect finish products to ensure the surfaces are free from defects or excessive grind marks. Excessive grind marks become very noticeable after a piece is powder coated. However, discovering defects after powder coating creates additional work to fix the grinding defect and then the piece must be powder coated again.
- Keep all equipment running by inspecting and performing basic maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning, and scheduling repairs when needed.
- Perform basic repairs, including replacing parts when they are worn down or broken, within the scope of expected knowledge and expertise.

Welder
SUMMARY: Our welders weld tubular, solid & galvanized steel stock in various sizes and shapes, and aluminum tubular & solid stock in various sizes and shapes. These pieces are cut & formed into furniture parts and sub-assemblies to make chairs, tables, fire pits, sofas, etc and are welded using TIG or MIG welding machines. The welder will be expected to place the parts or sub-assemblies from a stack, typically on a pallet, into various custom jigs, weld the item and remove the finished welded item and stack the welded part or subassembly or place the finished item just outside the welding booth, sometimes back on a pallet for movement to another welding booth. The welder must be able to adjust the welding machine settings in order to maintain the proper weld temperature in order to achieve the proper weld penetration for the required material(s) being welded. Because we manufacture furniture, structural integrity is very important but the visual appearance of the welds are also very important. The better the quality of the weld, the greater the reduction in grinding time, which is extremely important.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Weld steel solid stock, galvanized stock, flat stock, tubing, U channel, sheet metal & expanded metal materials in various sizes and shapes in the process of manufacturing high end, outdoor, casual furniture.
- Weld aluminum solid stock, flat stock and tubing materials in various sizes and shapes in the process of manufacturing high end, outdoor, casual furniture.
- Welders are expected to set their welding machine and keep the proper settings in order to make quality welds that will maintain the desired structural integrity and require minimum grinding in order to achieve the desired look.
- Welders are expected to maintain the proper gas mixture at the proper flow rate to maximize weld penetration and minimize porosity & the creation of pin holes.
- Welders are expected to fit parts in jigs properly so the item being welded is make correctly.
- Parts that do not fit properly into a jig need to be reported to the welding assistant or their supervisor so the necessary corrections can be made to either the parts or the jig, depending which is not correct.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
- Must be physically able to lift 50lbs. using proper lifting technique.
- Must be able to perform job in a standing position for length of shift, typically 8 hours with the possibility of some over time, approx. 2 hours at a time.

- Double eye protection consisting of Safety Glasses and a Face Shield MUST be worn when grinding if the welder is not wearing their welding helmet.
- Hearing protection MUST be worn properly at all times in all designated areas, Parts, Welding, Grinding and True-Up work centers.
- DO NOT look at the welding arc without some type of proper visual protection, because any exposure to the weld arc can cause eye damage. Always view any welding operation through a protective curtain or with the appropriate shade of safety glasses suitable to view welding arc.
- It is recommended that welders wear a welding respirator when welding and a standard dust respirator when grinding. Avoid directly breathing in the welding fumes because welding fumes can contain substances, which may be hazardous to your health. A safety data sheet is on file in the office and copies are available at your request.
- You must wear a rubber sole, leather type work shoe (no sneakers). Full length work type pants and a long sleeve work type shirt. Forearms protectors (or) suitable welding jacket (or) welding apron and sleeves (no sleeveless shirts permitted) and welding gloves are required.

Powder Coater
SUMMARY: The Finishing Department Powder Coater’s primary job function is the application of either the primer powder or the colored top coat of powder onto frames & parts with the highest efficiency and effectiveness. Frames and parts come in many different shapes and sizes from large bulky tables & chaises to small pieces the size of paper clips. Powder thickness, complete coverage of the item, transfer efficiency, powder usage, focus on getting the powder into cracks & crevices are just some of the areas where particular attention needs to paid to in order to maintain the highest quality finish.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply powder coatings onto steel & aluminum furniture frames and parts using a powder application gun.
- Double check to make the sure the correct settings are on the powder coating gun control panel for the color powder that you are about to spray before starting to spray.
- Always make sure to spray powder at approximately 12 inches from the part, not too close, but not too far away in order to achieve the best transfer efficiency and coverage.
Daily Checks:
- Proper ground from the powder application machine to the finishing line.
- Inspect & check the powder hopper, gun & lines for proper operation. Some parts do wear out, so it’s important to check those parts at least once a week to make sure they are still in a condition to provide optimal desired spray pattern & transfer efficiency.
- Observe the conveyor to make sure you don’t see it stopping when it shouldn’t be or jerking too much.
- Make sure the dust collection system is operating properly.
- Train and become familiar with “powder mil (1 mil is equal to one thousands of an inch) thickness” in order to efficiently apply the correct amount of powder.
- The correct thickness of powder will provide the best protection and the correct look as well as not waste powder.
- Pay attention and observe the powder that is being applied in order to notice if there is anything unusual about the color of the unbaked powder based your experience with the powder, such as color, texture of the powder, particle size, clumpiness, etc. Stop spraying the powder anytime you notice something unusual and notify your supervisor immediately.
- Make sure to apply the powder to the entire frame. Pay special attention to NOT miss any spots or spray to thin or not enough mils to get the desired level of coverage of powder depending of the specific powder. Some powders may require more or less of a mil thickness in order to achieve the desired look for that particular powder.
- Apply either a primer under coat or a color top coat in accordance with established standards & specifications.
- Use proper safety equipment & procedures at all times.
- Inspect your work for quality and make sure it meets established standards & specifications.
- Keep work area clean and picked upped.

Ornamental Metal Fabricator/Welder
SUMMARY: The Ornamental Metals Fabricator will be responsible for creating custom protypes, jigs, and other projects utilizing the skills described below.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fabricate custom items and equipment by cutting, forging, welding and other various techniques and equipment. Items include:
Steel and aluminum furniture prototypes - Master jigs used in furniture assembly
- Customs storage racking and other factory equipment
- Gather required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
- Maintain, organize, and clean equipment and work area as needed.

Qualifications

Tile Setter
SUMMARY: Tile and marble setters are responsible for making tabletops.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sets various size tiles using an epoxy adhesive on an aluminum honeycomb substrate.
- Must make sure that the outside perimeter of set tiles is set to the correct height using the plastic “U” height gauge.
- Ensure all the infield set tiles are even and level relative to the adjoining perimeter tiles.
- Not all tiles are flat across the top. Some tiles and have high & low spots that are part of the tiles design. Therefore, some unevenness will happen even when working diligently to make sure tiles are set at the proper height and are level relative to the adjoining tiles.
- Grout lines are to be kept to the smallest gap as possible.
- Because there are tile repeats in each tile collection, the setter needs to be conscience to make sure the tiles being used for a top appear to look random, as best as possible.
- Check with your lead if you suspect a particular tile has defect in it.
- Do not use tiles with obvious defects in it
QUALITY:
- Quality must always be a top priority.
- All quality issues, rejects, out of specification, and the like need to be documented & sent for review to the Department Lead and then to the Production Manager, on a weekly basis.
